The Beachy Amish Mennonites

Mennonites

Literature and Publishing

Though the Beachy church is one of the largest plain Anabaptist groups, there is no single publication company that stands out as the largest and most influential. Instead, most Beachy literature, including stories, children's books, doctrinal literature, school curriculum, and tracts, come from one of two larger conservative Mennonite publishing companies, Christian Light Publications (CLP) and Rod & Staff (books from the latter may be purchased from an unofficial site here). CLP is a parachurch Mennonite publishing company that has a large minority of Beachy staff working both in house and out of house. Rod & Staff operates under the auspices of the Nationwide Fellowship conference of Mennonites.

However, there are several smaller publishing operations within the Beachy Church.

Calvary Publications is the official publishing company for the Beachy church. The primary publication is the monthly periodical Calvary Messenger. This includes articles, newsbytes, poetry, obituaries, births, and marriages, and has been published monthly since 1970. The organization was founded under Ervin N. Hershberger's leadership and editorship. Paul L. Miller of Kansas is the current (and only third) editor. In addition to the Calvary Messenger, Calvary Publications

occasionally publishes tracts, books, and pamphlets for usage within the Beachy church, but has no regular inventory or catalog.

Amish Mennonite Publications features the literature of William McGrath and Ron Border. Most of the books are small to medium in size and address traditional stances and beliefs of the Beachys. One of the classic favorites is Christian and Plain, a collection of testimonies from people who joined the Beachy church from a non-Anabaptist background.
